City Press Editor Mathatha Tsedu has told the Johannesburg High Court he refused to allow family members to see his son's charred remains because the body had been burnt beyond recognition.
Avhatakali Netshisaulu wife Mulalo Tshivhidzo was the only person allowed to see the remains.
She and two others are currently on trial for his murder.
The editor says he became aware that his daughter in law was the murder suspect a week after his son was killed adding he was told investigators were following positive leads.
Tsedu says he knows his son's estate has not been finalised because the trial is underway.
He says if his daughter in law is convicted for the murder she should not benefit financially because of her criminal activity.
