Bloemfontein - A pregnant woman was hospitalised after three robbers raped her in front of her family during a burglary on a Free State farm, police said on Friday.
Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the incident happened on a farm near Harrismith on Thursday at about 20:30.
"Three unknown men overpowered an employee of the farm, a man and woman and their two children of three and five years."
Mophiring said the men tied up the man with wire, told the children to cover themselves with a blanket, and raped the woman, who was six months pregnant.
"The woman was taken to Thebe Hospital in Harrismith; it's not sure what her condition is."
Mophiring said two cell phones and two sheep were stolen after the incident.
Police are investigating cases of rape, house breaking, robbery and stock theft.
