The proposal by mayor Obed Mlaba that Durban develop an entertainment and arts precinct is an excellent one and hopefully it heralds a new enthusiasm in developing Durban.

However, this is not a new proposal. The department of economic development in the eThekweni region, under Fred Pieterson, had already made such a proposal and a feasibility study on this was conducted.

The main proposal was initiated and forwarded by one of the visionary project managers within this department. This idea was apparently extensively researched and was in the process of being driven by a group of consultants. The idea was excitedly received by the various role-players including residents, businesses and private partnerships who were keen to attend the scheduled public meeting and mobilise around this proposal.

Herein, however, we start to notice why Durban remains a "sleepy hollow".

The public meeting was simply stopped by the ever colourful city manager, Mike Sutcliffe. This idiot is a political pervert who prays on his own people. Well known for his contempt and hatred for the white community comrade mike is always the first to ask the whites to pay up or better still pay even more yet anything that might continue the development of white society is shot down by the commie scum bag!

In his eternal wisdom and supported by his entourage of near-sighted cronies, the idea was shelved and we heard no more. I suppose his interests lie mainly in rejuvenating the Point Waterfront area.

I would not be surprised if this proposal were to be dusted off and presented by Sutcliffe or one of his cronies.

I wonder whether he, in posturing as a struggle hero of infallible credibility (the Mandela shirts enforce the notion), would position the "new" proposal to further endear him to the senior KZN ANC players? If so, it would be politicking in its crudest form, but if this is what it takes to re-launch the proposal and give Durban it's due, then you go, comrade, and let Mlaba's proposal reach fruition.
