Eskom offers solar power incentives Friday, 25 January 2008
In a bid to reduce national energy consumption, Eskom has launched an incentive program to encourage more South African to use solar energy to power their household needs.
The programme aims to put South Africa's sunshine to good use as a sustainable alternative to coal-generated electricity.
Households and businesses are being encouraged to visit Eskom’s website and find out more about solar power.
The website offers important information about solar system and assists consumers in finding the right size and type of solar system to suit their needs.
Eskom has also invited businesses who supply solar power equipment to take part in the programme. An updated list of suppliers will be added to the website over the next two weeks.
The site will then offer solar systems to the general public, at discount prices.
Solar water heating is already being used at Cosmo City, a major housing project north-west of Johannesburg. The solar geyser project at the mixed-housing development is the first of its kind in the city, and cost developers around R2-million - amounting to about R13 000 per unit, consisting of a geyser and a solar panel.
For more information, visit Eskom Demand Site Management (http://www.eskomdsm.co.za/). The website also offers other tips for reducing energy consumption.

Hmmmmm
Have they heard of WIND POWER? Yes they have - but it is expensive for the average person to buy! However, when one considers the LOSSES that the country has had over these past months, enough wind power turbines could have powered up Johannesburg :)
This is the problem...
If you buy a wind turbine, you could sell excess power to a neighbour, or even back to ESKOM !
Do they allow you to do this? NO!!! Of course not! If we all had wind power, they would be out of business in screwing the last dime out of you! I mean really now...who wants FREE power? Not a South African surely?
I am a supplier of wind turbines imported from China - R140,000 to R350,000 each! Even our musicipalities can buy street lights that run off solar and wind combined, saving a fortune!
Comments please??
