18 months ago i had the unfortunate experience of having to give birth in port shepstone hospital.. what a disaster.. i was there for 12 hours. having being induced due to not dialating fast enough, they put me in a bed and forgot about me, i had to go find a sister every hour to check my progress and see if my baby is ok. My unfortunate husband had to witnass a black woman giving birth on her hands and knees unassister in the bed nex to me....... is that even allowed:confused: while my daughter was being born at 8:15 that night the black sister/nurse helping me kept on telling me my baby is going to die, that is seriously unprofesional:mad: Needless to say i had to spend the night, sleeping in the same bed as me was my newborn baby, being a new mommy i did not sleep, i feard waking up and finding my baby dead or gone there was blood on the floor in all the bathrooms and in the labour ward. the woman sat in a que to give birth like you would que at the bank. the next morning they gave me slappap and 2 slices of brown bread for breakfast. I was only allowed to go mhome at about 2 that afternoon, due to the babies having to be innoculated, i got inpatient and started complaining and got a very bad attitude from the nurses, sister in charge and the matron. Upon finally leaving they gave me the wrong baby imunisation card.
During my labour that lasted 6 hours they would not give me anything for pain, when i insitted they gave me panado.......... panado might be the most amazing thing to some people but i can take 30 and not be rid of even the slightest headache....... What to do:confused:
i am still pissed at that place

OMG Mako what a terrible experience!

The conditions of our hospitals leaves much to be desired. You get the same treatment at Addington Hospital.

Our MEC for Health is more worried about her photograph being put up everywhere instead of health.

I trust that your baby is now fine.

I witnessed at Addington Hospital human fecis all over the floor and walls of the toilet in casualty...and no one was prepared to clean it up! Disgraceful! But hey, lets give the minister a new mercedes and a few million bonus for a sterling job of doing NOTHING!!

I'm looking for other people who have had bad experiences, specifically at Albert Luthuli. My mother has cancer. Her tumour had become very enlarged and was blocking her superior vena cava which in turn stopped the lymphatic system from draining her body. Needless to say, she was in a very bad state when admitted. Even though the swelling was reduced, she came out of the hospital worse than she'd gone in. During her 10 day stay there she fell in the toilet and gashed her head. She needed 7 stitches...this being after she'd requested help to get to the toilet. The worst was, when she was being adminstered with chemotherapy, the nurse bypassed the vein in her foot so that the chemo went into the surrounding tissue, causing a chemo burn which has resulted in her nearly losing her foot. 3 months and 3 courses of antibiotics and the wound is just getting bigger. She has to have daily private wound specialist treatment and may need a skin graft to get the wound to heal. Our family will be taking legal action. If there's anybody else out there who's had a similar experience, please get into contact. Better to join forces than singly fight the system
